We are social enterprise working towards developing new craft skills in the local communities, using locally available materials and recycling waste.
Bee Light is a social enterprise working towards developing new craft skills within the local Rwandan communities.We use only natural, eco-friendly raw materials that are locally sourced in Rwanda, as well as recycling materials like tin, containers, glass bottles, bottle caps, etc. Our love for the environment inspires us to create beautiful high-quality natural products.
Our core product is Beeswax. Beeswax is a renewable material, and is a great alternative to paraffin candles. The wax is non-toxic, anti-allergic and 100% natural. Our beeswax retain their soft honey scent, adding to the beauty of the candles. We source our beeswax locally, working with traditional beekeepers in the Rwandan countryside.
While financially impacting the beekeeper community, we also provide training and awareness workshops by experts in this field.
We partner with different artisans like potters, wood carvers and horn artisans to create accessories for our candles and other home decor products. The materials used by the artisans are 100% eco-friendly and locally sourced. Recently, we have introduced recycled products in our brand. We mainly recycle, or ‘upcycle’ tins, bottle caps and glass bottles.
Bee Light started in 2016 and we are based in the beautiful city of Kigali in Rwanda. Our aim as a social enterprise is to introduce an extensive skill set in our staff. Bee Light employs people from the grassroot communities of Rwanda, who have little access to a normal stream of work.
All our products are handcrafted by local employees, and most of them are women.

We believe in reusing and recycling all our waste materials. We recycle, or ‘upcycle’ glass bottles and tins to make candle accessories and kitchenware products. At our workshop, we use all our waste paper to make paper maché boxes for storage and display!
All our practices of production and are materials are sustainable. Since we recycle our waste and use local eco-friendly raw materials, we reduce our carbon footprint and are environmentally sustainable. All our products are handcrafted by local artisans and materials are sourced from local producers.
Our products are 100% Made-in-Rwanda. Our raw materials are locally sourced from the countryside of Rwanda, while the artisans who make our products are also local Rwandans. All our sales directly contribute to the growing economy of our home country of Rwanda.
Our beeswax is 100% natural, free from any additives or chemicals. That makes our candles also 100% natural and healthy. Our other raw materials include clay, wood, sisal, vegetable oils and tree resin which are all also completely natural.
All our products are handcrafted. Every part of our processes requires a human-touch. The beeswax is hand-extracted by beekeepers themselves. The beeswax is then refined and purified using manual processes. Our final products, the candles and wraps especially, are hand-poured and handmade by women who are directly employed by Bee Light.
Our business policies, principles and operation procedures are conscious. We keep in mind the environmental and social impact of every decision we make for the company. All our product development processes and business operation methods are thoughtful and uphold our values of respect towards our surroundings.
